Course Description:

ENG101 College Writing is a foundational course designed to develop students' academic writing skills essential for success in higher education.

Students will learn to construct well-organized, evidence-based arguments; conduct academic research; and write in various rhetorical modes.

Emphasis is placed on critical thinking, the writing process, proper documentation (APA format), and developing a clear, effective writing style appropriate for college-level work.

Course Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in the writing process: prewriting, drafting, revising, and editing

  • Construct thesis-driven essays with clear organization and supporting evidence

  • Analyze and evaluate sources for credibility and relevance

  • Integrate research effectively using APA documentation style

  • Write in multiple rhetorical modes (narrative, descriptive, expository, argumentative)

  • Apply critical thinking skills to reading and writing tasks

  • Demonstrate command of standard written English grammar and mechanics

  • First-year college students (freshmen)

  • Students with little to no previous college writing experience
